I'm busy preparing for the day but I had to take a moment to reflect on some powerful words tweeted to me by Oprah Winfrey this year. She said "All it takes is one person, if you think it, they will come."
I sat there and meditated on the quote. Today as I prepare to speak to the National AmeriCorps VISTA Program where over 30 people are coming in from New York City to experience and learn about Minnie's Food Pantry. I stopped and reflected on "One Person". I thought about my journey to help feed the hungry in the community. When I faced hunger in my life there were alot of people in the government office, they all needed and wanted what I needed and that was a meal for our family. The feeling in the office is one that continues to bring tears come back to my eyes. I asked God to never let me forget the look, the sound and the feel of the government office and he hasn't. Of all the people in that office, I am probably not the only person who thought to themselves, there has to be a better way. I know that I was not the only one person who didn't want to be in that office. However, I may be the only ONE PERSON that was in that office to actually do something about it. The process had to be changed.
Hunger in Texas is a growing problem, even as nationwide, federal
programs such as food stamps have helped keep food insecurity from
becoming worse. According to the US Department of Agriculture, over the
past three years, an average of 18.8 percent of Texas households
couldn't get enough food to meet their needs.
There are two sides to this one person quote that Oprah tweeted about. I was the one person who started Minnie's Food Pantry, who had the concept of rolling out the red carpet to feed families in our community. Now I must rely on ONE person to help me with the mission. Oprah said if you think it that will come. I have literally met thousands of new people who have come to serve others at Minnie's Food Pantry. Everyday One Person joins our cause, everyday One Person donates or volunteers and because of One Person over 100,000 people have been given healthy meals in our community. Will you take a moment, visit www.minniesfoodpantry.org and become an IHOPE (Help Other People Eat) Hero and adopt one person/family per month for $25.00? We can't do it without you. Oprah is right, "All it takes is ONE person, If You Think it They Will Come."
Hungry To Serve,
